As in the school yard, the EU cool kids are not one bit cool. Israel is thriving financially. It doesn't need Europe. What possible benefit can come from Israel's forming ties with an organization that is so blatantly anti-Israel? The Arab Israel conflict will never be eased by such a humiliating alliance. Israel, if the world cares to remember, was born out of the ashes of Europe. It was granted as a state for the Jews because none of the European countries wanted them. In those days, the battle cry of Europeans to the Jews was "Go back to Palestine." Today, they shout, "Get out of Palestine," when it isn't even Palestine. It's Israel. No. No good can come of our relationship with the EU. For sure, the Palestinian people need a home, yet Israel has to keep its focus on what it knows: on its history, on its past experience with the vast Arab countries that surround it and with its assessment of the affection those countries have for Israel today. In short, Israel has to know how giving the west bank to the Palestinians will affect its own security. So far, our experience of giving land for peace has not paid off. Yes, the Palestinians need a home. the countries involved ( and I don't mean Europe) need to get together, if that is what they really care about, and talk peace.
