Dear Mr. Stephens,
I've never responded to a newspaper editorial before. I'm writing
today out of a sense of overwhelming gratitude to you and Mitt Romney.
Because you are of course right. Years ago, Israel was the "plucky
underdog, the proud member of the Socialist International." willing to
give its all to build a country in which its people could live in
peace with its neighbors. And you are right again when you publicly
acknowledge  - finally someone, no, not one, two wonderful people
acknowledge - that Israel exports "technology, not tyranny and
terrorism," that it devotes all its energies that are not dedicated to
defense, to life-enhancing research. May God bless you for that.
Because, though Israelis have by now relinquished their dream of
peace, they have no interest in perpetuating their tiresome Arab
Israel conflict. Nor, strange as this might seem, is Israel (no larger
than Rhode Island) interested in giving away anymore of its territory
for a peace that is never forthcoming. What is wrong with this
generation that rewrites history every five minutes, and that lies to
do so? -  What is wrong with our generation that they so intensely
want to believe the lies, desperate to see the bad in Israel because
it is successful, and the good in a nation of self-professed victims
whose leaders dedicate themselves to failure, to misinforming their
own citizens, to dedicating themselves to an ideology of death and
destruction; leaders who refuse to grow up and make peace?
What do you think? Would Obama like Israel, would he speak nicely to
its President, if Israel was a failure too?

In 2008, Obama announced that the US would always recognize Israel as its ally and Jerusalem as Israel's capital. It must have seemed expedient for him to say that at that time. Here we are in another election year; yet now that announcement is no longer expedient. Israel and the Israel Arab conflict have enough factors to consider, yet here it falls prey to Obama's political ambitions. I hereby declare St. Louis the capital of the US. Why not? It is just as true as Obama's claim that Tel Aviv is the capital of Israel. A recent article on the CBS online channel claims that Jerusalem was captured and annexed by Israel in 1967. Not so. Jerusalem was re-captured by Israel at that time. Jerusalem was first captured from Israel by Jordan in 1948. The difference between those two events is, that when Jordan captured Jerusalem (capital of Israel for 3,500 years and recognized as such by the Balfour Declaration and by the UN in '48) when Jordan captured Jerusalem from Israel, no one, not a single voice was raised to object. Battles no longer possess the style of outdated, good guy-bad guy, World War 11 warfare in which the guys that were right could recognize the guys that were wrong and conquer them. Terrorism is not a method of war used by the enemy. It is the enemy. Sure, Israel will go after, and probably kill, the terrorists of the Bulgarian bus attack. Such killings will not constitute conquest however as terrorists are enthralled by death - are trained from childhood to court death, to call to death to take them home. The eventual murder of the Bulgarian killers will serve as an invitation to more martyrs to fill that gap - and after them, more, and more..
Europe, as the rest of the western world, a little slow in understanding, is still intent on preserving the little that is left to them of their pleasant life-style. Perhaps they have no memories of World War 11, or perhaps they do. Perhaps that is why they refuse to look reality in the face. And who can blame them? Except that, as they wear their blinkers their world is rapidly disappearing. Again. And so is ours.
